I like Heinrich Böll but also Philipp K Dick but that is not the end of my spectrum. I also wrote some things myself but they are ugly and we don't speak about it.

TL;DR:
This book covers different social and philosophical aspects before the foreground of a ambivalently suicidal man meeting his life-affirming female soul mate. In an absurd and dream-like ending he kills her. Also you buy actually two books for the price of one!

This is a wonderful and thought provoking book about a man who thinks that is split in two parts: a middle-class persona and the so-called Steppenwolf - an animalistic persona representing the counter-pole of the middle class one. Each persona mocks the other and makes fun of typical his behavior.

This book contains a second book which in a strange twist of plot tells the story of the protagonist Harry. It gives Harry insight in the way that a person does not exclusively consists of two poles of personality but rather of an practically uncountable number of personality treats.
