Insgesamt eine interessante und spannende Geschichte. Nach dem Buch von Peterson (Transport) war ich skeptisch, ob das Buch mithalten könnte. Transport fand' ich persönlich spannender, aber vielleicht nur weil ich es vor diesem gelesen habe. :-)

If you have enjoyed "the Martian" you will probably enjoy also this one. It was the same style of detailed scientific writing.
Phrases like "It was louder than I thought it would be" are really cool. I mean, he not only imagined something completely new, he also wrote about it as it would already be real.
It was thrilling to tremble with the main character.

Größte Erkenntnisse aus dem Buch für mich:
Viele fahren nicht Auto weil sie gerne Auto fahren sondern weil andere Bedürfnisse (Flexibilität, Sicherheit) durch andere Verkehrsarten nicht erfüllt werden.
Das Auto ist für viele so attraktiv weil unsere Städte so gestaltet wurden, dass sie das Auto attraktiv machen.
Tja, es ist das Standardwerk und gibt einen mehr oder weniger detaillierten Überblick über das Thema Sportbootführerschein Binnen.
Zum Lernen für die Prüfung eignet es sich nicht, da bei den enthaltenen Testbögen immer die erste Antwort die Richtige ist. Für die Prüfungsvorbereitung gibt es allerdings gute Apps.
Wenn man überhaupt keine Ahnung hat vom Segeln dann sind die einzelnen Kapitel teilweise sehr schwer zu verstehen, da Segelbegriffe mit anderen Segelbegriffen erklärt werden, die man dann erstmal nachschlagen muss.

It (the content) was not entirely new for me. In the end, we all know that we will die but to make it really concrete by highlighting the average 4000 weeks was somehow eye-re-opening.
In the end, it all comes down to
- Don't overestimate your impact on the world. It can be freeing to not need to come up with the next big thing.
- Don't underestimate what you are doing. At least it makes someone happy and I hope it's you.
You will very likely oscillate between those two extremes and that is probably very good and if you float to one side or the other, read the book, or just this comment ;-) and try to move in the other direction. :-)
Ich hatte mir mehr Einblicke in das tägliche Leben in Italien erhofft. Mehr typische, persönliche Geschichten.
Es gibt auch einige interessante Einblicke aber der Autor taucht, für meinen Geschmack, zu oft in vergangene Zeiten ab. Das mag an der einen - oder anderen Stelle hilfreich sein aber insgesamt waren mir die Ausflüge in die Historie oder in die Kunst zu weit weg von dem täglichen Leben und Einblick.
Insgesamt ganz interessant zu lesen wenn man wirklich tiefer in die Insel und vor allem in die Geschichte einsteigen möchte. Wie auch schon bei seiner Gebrauchsanweisung für Italien nahm der Fokus auf die Historie der Insel einen viel zu großen Anteil.

Ich habe zuerst die Serie auf Netflix/Amazon geschaut und dann erst das Buch gelesen.
Obwohl es so lang ist, war es nicht wirklich langatmig. Ich war gut unterhalten und es gab viele spannende Abschnitte.

Klare Leseempfehlung wenn man Situationen mag, bei denen es eigentlich gar keinen Ausweg mehr geben kann und Phillip dann doch einen Twist findet, der physikalisch doch noch überzeugend ist.
Wer Transport mag der wird auch Universum mögen. :-)
Ganz unterhaltsame Geschichte. Ich hatte irrtümlich den 2. oder 3. band angefangen zu lesen, bin aber schnell darauf gekommen, dass dies nicht der erste band war. :-)
