Love People Use Things

Second time review:
Still a good read and a great reminder to love people and use things. :-)

I did take notes this time. Here are some:
„EVERY POSSESSION I, AS A MINIMALIST, OWN SERVES A PURPOSE OR BRINGS ME JOY. EVERYTHING ELSE IS OUT OF THE WAY.“

„Minimalists don’t focus on having less, less, less; they focus on making room for more: more time, more passion, more creativity, more experiences, more contribution, more contentment, more freedom. Clearing the clutter creates room for the intangibles that make life rewarding.“

„THERE ARE NO REFUNDS ON MISSPENT ATTENTION.“

Balance is important:
„If a crowded theater is on fire, you don’t want to panic and trample others on your way to the exit. But you don’t want to keep watching the movie, either, no matter how comfortable your seat is.“

„...But these aren’t mistakes—they’re dumb decisions. Selecting the incorrect answer on a test is a mistake; not studying for that test is a dumb decision. The mistake was something you did without intention; the negligent decision was made intentionally—often without regard for the consequences.“

„It’s difficult to talk about “the truth” because truth means different things to different people. It might be true that chocolate is your favorite flavor of ice cream, and it’s also true that two plus two equals four. That’s because some “truths” are subjective opinions, while others are objective facts.

Objective truths—like gravity or arithmetic—are what you might call principles, rules, or laws. They apply to everyone all the time because facts don’t require your belief; they are universally true irrespective of your beliefs. No matter what you think the answer is, two dollars plus two dollars will always equal four dollars.“

“If you have a dream without a plan, it’s just a wish.”

„Money isn’t bad or evil—it is merely an amplifier. Money won’t necessarily improve your life, but it will amplify your existing behaviors. If you have foolish habits, then more money will make your life considerably worse. (Think of all the lottery winners who end up destitute.) And if you’re already a generous person, then more money can help you be more caring and considerate.“

I also like the rules in the book but it would be too much text to put them here.

All in all it's a good read.

I have been listening to their podcast for a decent time, so I didn't get anything new out of the book.

So, if you are listening to their podcast regularly, this book might not be that interesting for you, but otherwise give it a try. :-)
