EinFach Deutsch Unterrichtsmodelle : Dave Eggers : Der Circle

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, even if it's getting on a bit, and some of the characters are a touch heavy handed. What starts out as vaguely sensible, turns rapidly into a dystopian nightmare fever dream. I'd recommend it.

Wirklich starker Anfang er einen auf viele verschiedene spannende Erzählstränge hoffen läßt. Kurz vor dem Ende habe ich dann aber realisiert, dass hier nichts mehr passieren wird. Sehr sehr schade. Da wäre mehr möglich gewesen

Dave Eggers dystopia walks the line between already-implemented and should-be-possible doings of a company resembling the likes of Facebook, Google & Amazon. He tells the story of Mae, who newly joins the tech company and works herself more towards the inner workings of the company. Compared to a dystopian classic like 1984, her progression is mostly foreseeable and her conflicts along the way pass by mostly unchallenged. Eggers misses the chance for challenging the technological progression in a much more unsettling way. While being a nice read, his novel is a rather unsubstantial contribution to the debate of the underlying topic.

It was entertaining read. The author spent the right amount of time to describe the current "normal" situation and the right amount to describe the dystopian situation getting worse and worse but the transition from one to the other happened fairly quickly. The author could have spent some more pages (30-50) describing the transition in more detail.
