I enjoyed this book. Finally watching Babylon Berlin, the TV show based on this book, made me want to get more from my favorite characters. I was surprised how much they changed for TV. For the better, I must say. The TV show is an intense, dark show. The book is a police procedural set in 1929's Berlin. Still good, but not as good as the show. Nonetheless I'll continue with the series to read more about my favorite asshole detectice, Gereon Rath.

Christopher Hinz: Liege-Killer (The Paratwa Saga, Book 1) (Paperback, Tom Doherty Assoc Llc)

Quite an entertaining book. I found it based on a review from a connection here on Goodreads. The story is fast-paced, the characters are fun and the stakes are high. I find it difficult to discover sci-fi books that I enjoy, because too often they are hard sci-fi or too weird for my taste. Books like this one are exactly what I want in sci-fi.

I know that it's the first of a series, but based on that same person's review I will not continue the series.

Lee Child: The Midnight Line (2017)

After the events abroad we're back to a regular Reacher story in some small town in the US. This is where Reacher is best. The writing feels so familiar and so do the characters, even the new ones. And even if the events are less crazy than some of the other books, I enjoyed this latest installment a great deal.

I watched the movie long before I read the book. There are differences in the movie adaptation, but overall it's quite true to the book. I must say that reading the book made me appreciate the movie even more. I already liked it a lot and now I realize that the casting was perfect. I saw the actors while reading the book and it fit perfectly. I think I'll even go as far as saying that I liked the movie better. Some things could've been more fleshed out in the movie and it did some silly things regarding technology, but it's a very good movie, based on a good book.

This book was shit. I have read all Landon books, after I went through the Angels and Demons audio book and loved it. For me that is still Brown's magnum opus. All books before and after are crap. This one is as insufferable as Digital Fortress. A difficult read because it's just so bad. A big problem is that I know about technology and just can't look over the glaring issues. I think this was my last Dan Brown book.

A quick, fun read. I think it was the first Grisham I ever read, although I have watched most of the numerous movies based on his books. With that history the book read like the novelization of a movie. Which doesn't have to be bad. An entertaining book if you're into the insights into the legal world Grisham generously provides.

English review at the end.

What a bad book. The author writes books about horses for kids and this murder mystery reads just like that. The writing is just bad, the plot is a mess and the dialog incredibly unrealistic. One of the main characters, Kirchhoff, remains flat and unknown, while Bodenstein got ample room to develop. Maybe that changes in the later books. Unfortunately I don't think I'll find out because …

Very powerful language, but it just keeps going on and on and on. The language becomes a gimmick at some point and reading on becomes a chore. Also, I just didn't care anymore about what was happening. The book is already short, but it's still too long.

The book had some interesting insights into a topic that I had only heard about as a sidenote. "Panzerschokolade" is a well-known term, so it was known that soldiers got drugs to perform longer. But the full extent of drug usage among the general populace, the army and the top level of government was new to me. At times the author tries a bit too hard to push the drug angle as an explanation for everything, but overall an interesting book.

Jim Butcher: Furies of Calderon (2004)

I guess I need to accept that Butcher's books are not for me. This one was so much better than the Dresden Files, because of its delightful lack of Harry Dresden. The story was nice, the Characters OK. I couldn't say why, but overall I found the book to be rather underwhelming. There's basically non-stop suspense and action. But somehow I just didn't care. I will probably not continue this series.
