I really enjoyed it. The characters felt nicer than in Riyria and I think that's because they are more varied here and because the reader can discover them. In Riyria we're introduced to two characters with much already defined.
The only thing I don't like is that print publishing is sooo slow. The books are written, but will be published one per year. That's really awful.

I enjoyed the story and the characters, but the book felt a bit too long at times. I found myself skimming pages and that way I could enjoy it. But it's a nice take on the topic of what could actually happen if good triumphs over evil.

It reads like a first novel. It also reads like an early Sanderson, in that it's too long and there is no character development. The writing is simple and the story trope-y. But after the Austen-like mess that was Strange & Norrell it was just the right thing.

Baldacci writes entertaining books. I skipped the first Amos Decker book for some reason, but that was not a problem.
I liked that Decker used to be the football hero but is now quite fat. A nice change to the usual superhero this kind of book features. We'll see how fit he'll be in the next one.
The story could have been a bit more dense, but it was still a fast read and I enjoyed it.

Poor Matthew, the things he must go through. and there's yet more to come. I came to not only enjoy the story, but the history lesson as well. Tudor times have not been a strong point of mine and I already know much more about the rule of Henry VIII. Great book for all who have enjoyed the first two.

I liked this book quite a lot. The stage was bigger and there was more action. And on top of that the usual investigation in a Tudor setting. A historical crime novel can hardly get any better.
Two points strike me as odd and that adds to why I like the Matthew Shardlake books. They are set in an era of change, at the end of the middle age. That many people are still religious, and to what depths, is something completely alien to me. And that characters really believe that the king was sent from God to rule is just as strange. Especially when they just discussed that the previous royal line was disposed off violently. How does that match?

A nice book. I am a sucker for detective stories and I also enjoy historical fiction, this book (and the whole series) combine both. I enjoyed it, although the book was definitely not perfect. But I liked it well enough to try the next book with Matthew Shardlake.

I found this book tedious to read and yet hard to put down. Capote delivers incredible amounts of absolutely worthless information and that makes the book often difficult to read because I just don't care about the history of side characters. But there is still the voyeurism this book plays to and that made me go on, although I started skipping paragraphs later on. At the time this book apparently did something new, but when reading it now it just feels way too long. We usually get the same from a long article these days. In the end I thought it's an OK read.

I just like everything Connelly writes. This one is a bit older and going back to pagers and modems feels a bit odd, but hey, I'm not a young foal anymore, I know how it used to work. This book sets up one of the Bosch novels, I forget which one, and it felt nice to get some backstory to some recurring characters from the Bosch universe. Overall I very much enjoyed this book. Connelly just manages to portray any kind of professions in a way that at least makes you feel that he knows what he's talking about. Next up, The Scarecrow and then the wait for the next Bosch novel, dropping in the fall, will begin.

Woo, the best Haller so far! The scope and events were bigger and so was the payout. Excellent court room drama with a bit of investigation thrown in. Excellently entertaining book!

I really enjoy the Haller books. I think it speaks to Connelly's skills as an author that he can show the two sides of the legal system equally engaging, even though they despise each other. Connelly likes the prosecution more, I guess, considering how the Haller books tend to end. But they are nonetheless very entertaining.

Finishing this book was a struggle. I had watched the movie first, as I had heard from multiple people that they would recommend that. Unfortunately this made the book a difficult read because there were no surprises anymore. Although the book made me appreciate the movie even more, so that's a plus. I think my recommendation is to only watch the movie and don't bother with the book. Unless, of course, you're really into the detailed science-wankery, then the book is for you. Me, I enjoyed it for a while but it got old and started to smell. Watching Whatney "science the shit out of this", by the way, a great line the movie added, fitting his character, was a gimmick and not something that could carry an entire book. Another problem I had with the book was that Whatney didn't feel like a human being. He was more like a plot device so the author could throw around a lot of science. I guess that's another reason why I liked the movie better. Seeing him helped to convince me that he's human.
