Green Mars was published in the early 1990ies and describes the process of a terraformed Mars from a geoengineering and societal perspective. At the same time, forces on earth, such as big megacorporations having the role of countries and some remaining original countries battle for power over earth and control of Mars. Later on Earth has to fight with fast rising flood levels due to climate change and exploitation of the planet, which creates the opportunity for people on Mars to take control and become independent of the megacorporations and countries from earth.

While clearly more advanced then we are now, the book describes issues we face currently, such as megacorporations and climate change.
