It is the life work of Shevek, a brilliant physicist from the arid anarchist world of Anarres. Shevek's work is being stifled by jealous collegues, so he travels to Anarres's sister-planet Urras, hoping to find more tolerance there. But he soon finds himself being used as a pawn in a deadly political game.
Overall, a good book because I enjoy SF and I was mentally stimulated by some of the ideas about social structures. The reason why I give it 3 stars and not 4 is that it seemed to me that the author was trying too hard to describe the philosophy at the cost of the SF aspect.
