J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) (2015)

Harry Potter #1

Loved rereading it

Read it 25 years ago and have to say that it hasn't lost it's magic.

Raynor Winn: The Salt Path (Paperback, 2019)

Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, her husband of 32 years, is terminally ill, …

A wonderful story

Loved reading this book. A story about a middle-aged couple losing everything only to gain something even better.

Totally recommend to read it to find a sense of what is really important in life.

Can't wait to read her second book The Wild Silence.

Tina Turner: Tina Turner (2018, Penguin Random House)

Love's got everything to do with it.

Tina Turner was the Queen of Rock …

Simply the Best

After watching the the documentary Tina I felt some questions unanswered so I had to read her autobiography. I guess it was the first autobiography I ever read.

I don't regret it.

It reads as if she is sitting with you at your kitchen table telling you her story.

A story that affected so many people. Me, too.

Ana Reyes: The House in the Pines (Paperback, 2023, Dutton)

Armed with only hazy memories, a woman who long ago witnessed her friend’s sudden, mysterious …

Couldn't lay it aside (but I had to)

The book should come with a warning label since the protagonist Maya is heavily addicted to drugs (pills) and alcohol. The way it is written it could be a trigger for all of those fighting an addiction.

I haven't read a thriller in ages. This one is one I'd call a psycho/mystery thriller. There is no violence, no blood shed, just mind games.

If not for work (well, I have to pay rent and fill my fridge) I could have read it in a day or two.

The author really kept the suspense and the need to know high up.

The end was a bit ... flat hence disappointing (for me) but nonetheless, this debut thriller totally worth reading it.

Madeline Miller, Stefano Benni: The Song of Achilles (Hardcover, 2012, Ecco Press)

Achilles, "the best of all the Greeks," son of the cruel sea goddess Thetis and …

Such a great and lovely read

I haven't expected such a wonderfully told story. Nothing could have prepared me for the joy in reading it. In the end it's all about unconditional love. Easy read and I absolutely recommend it.

Sarah K. Jackson: Not Alone (Paperback, english language, 2023, Picador)

In a dying world, how far will a mother go to save her child? Five …

Potential not used

Normally I don't like postapocalyptic stories too much but this one sounded promising. It didn't meet my expectations.

Story starts 5 years after a micro plastic storm which eliminated most of the population. It tells the story on how a mother survives with her almost 5 yro boy in a world full of poison and dangers by other survivors. Until she found signs that her fiancé might have survived and she starts a journey high up to the north through the country.

The story is mostly about how she overcomes and survives dangerous situations with other survivors or even animals. At times I was even annoyed by yet another obstacle to overcome. A bit too much for my taste

Imho the author missed the chance to write a lot more about how it ever came that far (she did mention it but only as a side line). …
