"Things only have the value we give to them. And likewise, actions can be worth whatever we decide them to be worth."

After a slow start this turned out to be an amazing story. Told by the best storytelling furniture a noodle shop owned by a piece of god could have, it is still a very different Sanderson book that should work even without knowing the rest of the books. Very sweet and emotional :)

Also maybe a critique generative AI?

Mark Lawrence: Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor, #1) (2017)

As a fantasy story it is kind of average. It deals with the main characters "school" time which allows for decently paced worldbuilding. I think the weakest part, and what makes it a bit meh, are the characters. They aren't really bad or boring but just not written in a way that made me care about any of them. But what made the book enjoyable for me was the allusions to scifi elements in the worlds past. So I kind of want to read the rest of the trilogy just so I can feel smart about getting the authors hints on orbital mechanics.

hat Elric of Melniboné von Neil Gaiman besprochen (The Elric Saga, Vol. 1)

Neil Gaiman, Michael Moorcock: Elric of Melniboné (2021, Simon & Schuster Books For Young Readers)

From World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Michael Moorcock comes the first book in his …

It has a peculier writing style which became charming after I got used to it. The subplots and settings are fantastical and very creative, without becoming absurd. Only major flaw I felt was the weak resolution of the overarching plot, which made the character development hard to believe. Overall I really enjoyed the book and it was quite refreshingly different to the fantasy I've read recently.

Brandon Sanderson: Tress of the Emerald Sea (2023)

1 New York Times Bestselling author Brandon Sanderson brings us deeper into the Cosmere universe …

I've like all of his books so far, but this is definitely one of my favorites. He describes the book perfectly in the postscript:

"So, I knew this book would have one foot in a whimsical space. I didn’t want a fairy tale, but I wanted something adjacent. However, I also didn’t want it to be too childlike. I wanted something my fans would enjoy: a grown-up fairy tale, so to speak."

And enjoy it I did. Aside from the story it has cute illustrations, very lovable characters and clever spins on fantasy tropes. It contains many references to the cosmere so it might not be good starting point for his books, unless you're good at ignoring those hints!

Lacked a bit of variety compared to the first one but overall very fun to read. Only thing that annoyed me was again the inconsistency of her being the best assassin ever, but e.g. people sneaking into her trapped room to leave gifts while she sleeps.
