The first part of the book is dedicated to critiquing the hierarchies of our current society as well as other alternatives and their shortcomings (such as Bolshevism in Russia). Berkman succeeded well in this regard, but I felt a bit bored here, as I am already familiar with most of the arguments presented. This might be more interesting and insightful for others however.
The other two parts of the book were far more interesting and intriguing to me, as Berkman goes in to the details of anarchist communism and how such a society may be achieved. This is where I truly felt the author's writing come to life, convincingly portraying his arguments for the possibility of a society without oppression and hierarchies. The writing is brimming of hope and optimism, while envisioning a clear path forward on how to achieve such an anarchist society. A vision most (non-anarchist) communist …
